SEHC Middle School Literacy Centre
38 students attend reading support lessons, three to four times a week.All these and 20 0ther students attend Success Maker. Each time these students get one our lesson. 7 students are reading at 5 - 6 yr reading age and 3 of them below 5-6 yr. RA. All the other students read at 6-7 and 7-8 reading Ages. They go through a variety of reading activities within the week.
Learning and reciting a Nursery Rhyme or a poem is their warm up activity and this normally leads to focus on a special phonic aspect.
Next it is reading to, which can lead to visualizaton or summary (on a flow chart) strategy practice.
Reading with, takes place when the groups participate in shared or reciprocal reading with the teacher.
Reading by, takes place as the students are engaged in Sails Independent series.
Students listen to and read with listening post or rain bow reading before they do the related activities.
These alternative activities give the teacher time to give one to one attention to each students.
